How and why are trap guns different?
Thanks

There are 2 distinctions:
1) They usually have a rib with 2 beads; the user "stacks" the beads. This tilts the barrel slightly upward to better hit targets that are rising.
2) They usually have a monte carlo to raise your head on the stock; otherwise, the rear bead would obscure the front one.

Trap guns are set to pattern higher than your sight picture looking down the rib. Because a trap target rises very fast, to lead it you would essentially have to block the target with the barrel in order to hit it. Simply put; you wouldn't be able to see the target when you fired. To overcome this, trap guns have a rib that is not parallel to the barrel and is higher at the breech than at the muzzle. With a raised comb you can look (you don't "sight") down the rib and put the bead on target. Skeet guns normally shoot where you look land behave like a field gun.
Other than the fact that both disciplines use shotguns and clay targets, trap and skeet are drastically different. Nothing is as good for trap shooting as a dedicated trap gun, but it is essentially worthless for anything else. While a skeet gun can be made to work in trap shooting, if you try the reverse and use a trap gun for skeet, you'll have to hold under the target, otherwise you will be shooting over the top every time.0 -
Go to the makers website and read the description for features on trap, skeet, clays and hunting shotguns.
Having several choke tubes for a skeet unit is my preferred 1 shotgun set up.0 -
Or you can get a Sporting Clays model with Adjustable Everything and mark a setting that suits your hold for each game. 0
