K frame conversion
Question: I have happened upon some K frame Smiths (4 inch barrel stainless) that are going to be retired soon and will up for sale in the near future. The problem is they are double action only and have the bobbed hammers. Is it possible (A) and (B) worth the expense to buy them and convert them back to single/double? I didn't get the exact model of them but I will and insert that info in the next day or two.

You'll need replacement new or used hammers.
Probably nothing more.0 -
I believe just the hammer needs replacement. To convert it back to single/double action. From DAO.
Years ago when I was still living in Calli, (1980's?). The LAPD had one of their officers, involved in a unfortunate shooting. He fatally shot a woman, when his revolver discharged. He had it cocked in single action mode. Subsequently, the LAPD had all their revolvers converted to DAO.0 -
Yes it is possible to replace both the hammer and trigger.
No it will not be worth it IMHO. Sell them as is.
It sounds like X cop pistols with fixed sights Model 64. Buying new parts and/or fitting used parts to a used gun seems like a sure way to loose money.
Consider that someone would pay to have the hammer bobbed and the trigger modified for DAO - so find those persons and sell them your pieces a good price very quickly.
added Perhaps a new trigger is required for converting to SAO or back.0 -
That's an easy fix. Just get some new hammers. I like the target style hammers. 0 -
Worth it? Yes if you get them cheap enough, check out actual sold prices for the same model on the auction side to see if it will be worth it to you.
S&W has hammers for them at around $50. ea that last time I bought some, some fitting will probably be needed, but no big job.0 -

This may or may not be true. Can you examine one of them? If so, pull the trigger back until you can get hold of the hammer, release the trigger and see if you can cock the gun.0
