Zastava M88a shortened Tokarev
Anyone have experience taking this slide apart?
I've read it's a hassle due to a slide safety.
Spare parts are next to impossible to find
I had a slam fire yesterday in dropping the slide on a chambered cartridge.
The fp spring will be stiffened and/or the fp will be lightened.
It was the second slam fire in a lifetime of handling guns.

Slam fires are a sear/hammer engagement problem. Contact the importer/distributor,if they are still in business. This would be a huge legal liability problem for them. My feeling is, that they would want to rectify it as quickly as possible.
I had one of the Chinese made, Walther Sportmodel copies, with the same problem. Unfortunately Navy Arms in N.J., (who imported them), had gone out of business years ago.
Luckily the folks I bought it from, agreed to take it back.0 -
Hammer didn't follow the slide. Hammer-sear-sear spring are OK.
This is a firing pin weight/return spring problem.
It was a surprise and reminder to keep gun pointed down range when
releasing slide.
Zastava is a huge Serbian arms factory we may have bombed.
Connections aren't good.0 -

Personally I see it as a problem with a over sensitive primer, rather than a firing pin with to much inertia.
Using the same ammo. Paint the primers with a black Sharpie pen. Very carefully, with the muzzle pointed toward a safe area. Release the slide. Check the primers to see if the inertia of the firing pin, has marked the primer. In any discernible way.0 -
It could be grease in the FP channel. Or, it may not have a FP spring. Or, the FP spring may be kinked. Or....
You are going to have to figure out how to remove the FP & check it out. Oddly, EAA doesn't have a parts diagram for the M88 on their website. If you can't figure out how to disassemble the slide, you may need to pay a professional.

Nope, nope, nope. This is a fp return spring issue.
It looks like the fp needs to be pushed forward beyond the grip of the slide safety, the safety rotated to lock the fp forward while the safety is lifted out of the slide.
In doing this, a ball detent will fly followed by a tiny coil spring.
Reassembly will be a three handed affair.I don't want to fight with that yet.
This gun is in process of conversion to 7.62x25.
The slam fire is just one of a surprising number of deficiencies of this seemingly well made gun.
Yes, we did bomb the factory in Serbia. Maybe they are getting back at us.0
