Winchester pre-64 Model 70 bolt serial numbers?
I was asked if the bolt had a serial number matching the rifle receiver of a 1951 vintage Winchester Model 70 I have listed. There is no serial number visible on the bolt. Only stampings underneath the root of the handle are numeral "2" and a larger stamped "N". I am quite certain the rifle is completely original, I know the previous owner of the last 60 plus years. I don't remember these older Winchesters having that feature. Did some have matching serial-numbered bolts? Later ones?

The bolt had the serial number etched on it with an electric pencil. 0 -
Found it! I needed a magnifying glass, the serial number is indeed etched onto the bolt, but very, very lightly! Thank you! 0 -
I always check the bolt and gun serial numbers for a match.
I have purposely swapped bolts on win 70's and rem 700's of the same caliber and most generally the headspace will be out of tolerance when the unmatched bolt is installed.0
