I think that you need to go back & take a photo of the lower receiver markings on the rifle in question.

And, we need to know what "good" means.

    Neal

EDIT: This is why we ask you to post good photos. You are correct, the lower is an A2 lower. TSR is mostly correct, it has an A1 upper with a replacement barrel. So, it's still a Mixed Parts Mongrel; I concur with TSR's estimate.

EDIT 2: Yes, you are right, it might be a replacement handguard. But, that wouldn't make a difference. Without seeing the markings, we don't even know if the barrel or upper are Colt.

'Slab side' has long been used to describe an AR where the lower receiver has no raised area around the magazine release, but nowadays you hear some using this term when referring an AR upper with no forward assist or case deflector.

What's the setup on this rifle you're talking about?

No forward assist, just like the one pictured but mine is aa COLT A2, I believe the one pictured is a 1. Mine also does not have the Triangle shaped forearm but a lng round one

All you had to do was put that link between image tags just like the instructions suggest...

You have an A1 upper and lower, but your upper has had a barrel replacement. You are looking at in todays market, at a $600.00 shooter, not collector.

Even if it says COLT AR15 A2 SPORTER II on the receiver

Don't want to be ignorant but is it possible that it is just the fore arm that s changed?

Or is it possible to purchase an upper with forward assist to bring it back to a complete A2 and not a mixed gun

Ok I will look to see if there are any markings and let you know

An original A1 should have a pencil barrel (thinner barrel) on it yours appears to be heavier.

Armilite, it is not an A1 but an A2 lower. What I am trying to figure out is if it is an original COLT upper and barrel. The only markings on the upper are the letters C H. On the barrel it says 5.56 NATO 1/7. I am not sure of the upper because it does not have a forward assist lever and no markings to tell me if it is an original COLT upper. All I know is that I purchased the gun from a friend of mine several years ago and he said he purchased it new from the gun shop a long time before that. Any help would be appreciated

    A 1 in 7 twist is a fairly recent in 5.56.

    I'm thinking it's not original.
