There seem to be many out there with the old barrel stamping indicating a replaced barrel. Any particular reason for this?

  Corrosive priming and black powder 22's, poor cleaning practices.

  Early Winchester barrels were made of mild steel and with the combination as stated above they were easily shot out. Winchesters are the worst for having the bore completely shot out and destroyed.
