Winchester 1893 question
I just got a Winchester 1893 that I have some questions about. Serial number is B30689. It has a 20 inch barrel and I'm trying to figure out if this is the original barrel length. As I understand it, this gun recently came out of a sheriff's office in eastern Colorado. It's in very nice condition.
There are no choke markings on the barrel. Right against the receiver is the number 12 and nothing else. We're 1893s marked as to choke? I know the 1897s have the choke marked on the barrel.
I see no evidence that this barrel has been cut, and the sight bead appears to be similar to the few pictures I've found of a factory 1893 riot gun. I'm going to order letter From Cody shortly, but just wondering if there's a way to tell if this is the original barrel length?
TIA,
Rob

Rob,
Your new (old) Model 1893 is one of the (644) that were manufactured as a Riot Gun. The 20-inch barrel is correct. Winchester did not mark the Choke on the barrel unless it was something other than standard for the configuration. I would love to see pictures of the gun.
I wrote the description on the WACA website that Charlie pointed you towards. I am also in the process of wrapping up the research for an article on the Model 1893 that will be published late this year or early next year in the "WINCHESTER Collector" magazine. If you are interested, I can provide you with the factory ledger information for this gun. Send me a PM so that we can correspond further about it.0 -
Bert,
Thanks for the info! I sent you a PM and took a bunch of pictures that I can send to your email.

You had better get this one deleted as it's a no-reserve auction and you're obligated to sell it to the highest bidder:

Open a Support Issue, explain your error and ask them to delete it.
