NRA Letter On 1st Gen Colts?

No, but they give out letters of appreciation to those who donate Colts (& other guns) to the NRA museum.

EDIT: Well, technically, Colt has never "authenticated" anything; all they do is provide a description of the gun when it left the factory, & sometimes a description of work they later performed on the gun.

The word "authenticate" implies that an expert has physically examined a gun & provided a written opinion of it's originality. There used to be an author/collector/expert who provided that service for Colt SAA's.

you CAN buy A LETTER FROM COLT ON MOST ANY OF THEIR GUNS First gen SAA
letters dont come cheap for the most part a letter on a military issue will just say it was one of 1000 shipped such & such date to the military some records were lost and will not letter y 1937 Saa in 38 special Fire at plant my first military contract Ainsworth proofed again fire destroyed records But you can call in and they will tell you if they have records Great thing about that is they will give you a price on the letter The higher the price the better off you are because a normal letter on a shipment of 100 to a major hardware store is X amount shipment of five guns shipped to a Silver mine may be 3X in cost. and factory engraved shipment of one to BUFFALO BILL may be 10 X in cost but worth thousands of $$ more with the letter from colt

I appreciate the 2 responses but the question is

Did The Nra in the 70's and before send out letters of
authentication . If anyone that knows if NRA ever did something like that.

    Any old NRA oldtimers.[:D]

Your answer in both responses was NO. Even if they did, it wouldn't amount to anything, as they are not in possession of the records from which those letters are derived from.

The Winchester letters from the Cody Firearms Museum, stand, because they have all of the Winchester records that are left, all the way to 1980, if I am not mistaken, in their house.

Colt is the only one that has the records to authenticate one of their guns. The NRA never had any records.
