Colt SAA Clone
I have a 3rd gen Colt SAA and Cimarron copy - both 7 1/2" bbl, 45 Colt caliber. The Cimarron is their "7th Cavalry" version, I like it. I'd like to get a 5 1/2" Colt clone and would like to know which marketer offers the most authentic version.
Whether blackpowder frame or later, half moon ejector rod head or full doesn't much matter to me. Grip frame, case hardened frame, sights and obviously no transfer bar - must have the hammer mounted firing pin.
I hear the EMF imported "Californian II" is supposed to be very good. And I'd like the gun to be in 44 Special. Does anyone have their favorite?

I used to have an American Western Arms "Peacekeeper". A beautiful revolver and a great shooter.

Thanks, I'd completely forgotten about AWA - keep mixing them up with USFA. But that's definitely a nice looking SA revolver. 0 -
I have a couple of Ubertis and a couple of Piettas. Both brands are excellent quality and accurate shooters. Both are Colt clones with the firing pin in the hammer. [:)] 0 -
Old man Uberti bought all the Colt toolings back in (what?) the '70's? Also Uberti makes guns for Cimarron, Stoger, Taylor and I forget who else. Basically if they're new Uberti name's on the gun somewhere. So what you're looking for is made by Uberti. 0 -

Understood, and I think Uberti is owned by Beretta and makes their "Stampede" revolver too. I presume the marketers have different specs for Uberti and the company turns out accordingly - alot like cigar makers turning out different brands.
I've held some SAA clones with grips that are too long or thin, frames too big or front sights set back too far or too low or odd "safety" systems and want to avoid that.0 -

Look here ron

EMF is just another importer of Italian copies, they don't make anything.
I think Great Western II is a Pietta, Dakota a Uberti.
I don't see a .32-20 there.
Cimarron (Uberti) does.

Well I ended up with an AWA and bought it here - slightly different version though - a 32-20 with 7 1/2" barrel.

I had the bidding to myself until the end and won it by $5.00. [:)]
I figure the 32-20 chambering is harder to come by and a 45 Colt can be had later.0 -
