Hi...What does a star mean following the serial number on a nickel plated Smith and Wesson revolver? BT

  I know some makers of pistols mark a gun if it comes back to factory for refinish or modification don't know if one of those marks is a STAR and if it is used by S & W

  A star on a Smith & Wesson is a factory rework mark.
  It might have been mechanical repair, refinishing, "change of finish" or a special order modification.
  Close clear pictures might show what was done... or not.
