I have a couple of early Gew 88's still in .318 and still require the clips. They feed fine and are quite smooth.

I haven't had to load any ammo since I have an ancient box of NORMA ammo, but I'd give what you're proposing a whirl. You should be able to load it in an 8x57 JS set of dies although the crimp might not be as tight as you would like. Remember, it's the bullet that has to be .318, the case will probably chamber just fine.

Good luck and let me know what you find out.

    jaegermister,

quote:...will my dies work using a 8x57 rimless shell holder, . 318 expander pilot and 8x57 brass?

Yes it should work. Many of us have doing this same thing with rimmed and rimless versions of the same case for years.

    Best.

I came across a site that had reproduction clips, the one's you're looking for have the huge round hole in the sides. Just do an online search and they'll pop up since I don't remember the site.

I have one in 7x57, round nose bullets feed best.
OAL is more important than with a Mauser.
Try to find one of the snap on clip blocking things. I know that sounded stupid but it has been 25 years since I bought one.
Email me and I will find you one.

going to locate a clip, make up some dummy rounds for feed
test before i buy, not familiar enough with this firearm to go
and directly lay down money. many questions like , if you insert
charger clip and want to empy loaded magazine, how?
this rifle has a hindged floor plate but hole appears only large enough
for empty clip to come out. and how does the latch in trigger guard
engage the clip? and does this take the 88 commision clip?
