Any Sword Experts
I have what I think is a Japanese sword and can't seem to find anything about it. It looks old, and I've had the handle off of it but no writing. I will attach a few pics to see if this helps. Thanks!

If memory serves, the maker would usually stamp his name, etc on the tang where it would be covered by the handle.
Any close ups of the blade?0 -
here is a close up on the blade and under the handles. I couldn't find any makers names. At one time there was a really old piece of paper hidden on it, but it has since crumbled to dust.

It's a souvenir sword like you can buy in the gift shop at the Tokyo airport.
The fake hamon and not silk wrap are a dead givaway.0 -
It looks to be a Chinese copy. Etched hamon, the handle wrap is not silk. The tang is poorly finished. Sorry but it is not a valuable Japanese ancestral sword. 0 -
Hello:
The person who made my swords can be found at www.bandkcustomfirearms.com. If you will send this e-mail to him - I will allow him to let you see my creation origami for the two sword set he made for me. Be aware that such swords are not cheep - you will have to get up off your wallet.

Here is an expert.
I got 2 old swords from an estate about 10 years ago. I shipped them to him and he evaluated them to later 1400's and late 1500's. Both signed.
Price was reasonable.

No, it's made in Japan, not China. I walked past a shop in Kawasaki where they were being made. The sam? is pure white and the quality of the wrap is authentic. The potmetal fittings are filled out well and the colour is consistant.
Lots of little telltale signs, even in the scabbard.0
