32 SW with small magnum primers
Was just wondering if anyone has ever shot a old 32Smith Wesson (short)with just a small magnum primer? I have a couple of 1000 of the small magnum primers and need to shot them up.

Drop down 1/2 grain for safety sake, if they are pistol primers. If they are rifle primers? Might not even work, because of the thicker cup metal. 0 -
The small 32 SW does not take much powder anyway, maybe 1.5g of Bullseye. I was talking about shooting them with no powder and just the magnum primer. 0 -
A primer alone won't get a lead bullet out the barrel. 0 -
If the primer alone will not do it, 0.5 gr. of Bullseye will get it out of the barrel. A tip from Handloader magazine. 0 -
I looked and the normal load for the 32 SW is 1.1g of bulls eye 0 -
if you try just a primer it will most likely jam the cylinder so it will not turn . Look at it this way the primer goes off and this causes the primer to try to back out of the case from pressure developed between the mouth of the primer and flash hole in the case then the powder develops pressure trying to push the bullet out the barrel this causes the case to be pushed back against the recoil plate of the pistol frame but also re seating the primer flush with the case head and allowing the cylinder to be rotated with no pressure developed in case the primer is backed out the primer pocket and not re seated you will then need to take a 1/4 inch diameter steel rod down the barrel and tap it with a small hammer to reseat the primer. it will nor hurt any thing but reseating 1000 primers will be a PITA 0 -
You can just enlarge the flash hole.
Don't use the modified brass for regular loads, though.0 -
The other thing you can do is shoot wax bullets out of it using just the primer.
Pick up a block of paraffin (what Grandma used to seal her canning with).
Re-size and prime as normal, you don't have to re-size after after shooting wax bullets but the brass may not chamber easily if you don't start out that way.
Push the brass into the block of paraffin and break it off, you now have a primer only wax loaded round.
May need to trim the top flush with the brass.
All the wastage, spoils, spent bullets, etc, can be melted down and reformed into another block of paraffin
I've found a wax bullet will penetrate a soft drink can from about 15 feet, it will kill a mouse, makes little noise, can be shot indoors, and is a lot of fun to play with.

That is a great idea about the wax bullets, I will give it a try for sure. Thanks 0 -

I found that mixing 4-1 paraffin to bees wax makes a better bullet.
Straight paraffin will sometimes crumble when you push the case into it and sometimes shatter when fired. Plumbers wax from the hardware store works.
Pour the melted wax mixture into a flat bottom baking pan to a depth equal to 2/3-3/4 the case length. Make sure the surface the pan is on is level.
Drill the primer flash holes to 3/32" or 1/8" and mark the cases. I file a couple small notches in the edge of the rim to identify them for wax only. Once drilled full length size and then press the case mouth into the wax until it bottoms on the pan and give a slight twist. Seat the primer after loading the wax so's not to trap air in the case.0
