Redfield Rear Sight
I have a Winchester Model 1894, Ser# 111384, in 30WCF. The rear sight is marked Redfield. Was it common practice for Winchester to use these rear sights or is this a repair part that someone added? Does this rear sight take away from the value of the rifle?
Thanks,
Joe

That is an old one, 1897 or so, Redfield was not in business yet, so it has to be an aftermarket installation.
Is it an open barrel sight? If so, you could probably round up a correct rear sight if your rifle was in nice enough shape to be worth the trouble and expense.
Or is it a receiver sight? Not done in the 19th century, the extra holes drilled and tapped would reduce the collector interest.
Me? I bought an 1892 that came with Pacific rear and Dockendorff front that were fine for shooting but not original or correct. I had to take off the peep and globe and go to Marbles open sights for CAS.0 -
If an early 94 has been has been drilled and tapped for aftermarket receiver sights. It negatively affects it's value.
Believe Lyman receiver sight could have been ordered from the factory? Not Redfield's.0 -
Thanks for the info. 0
