gewher 88 clip function
bought new clip to test sporting rifle Haenel mannlicher 8x57j with dummy rounds 318 round nose.
clip fits tight and does not drop out bottom of action, rounds do not guide into
breech , and bolt face strikes clip rear axtually nothing comes close to working right
in a very fine rifle, suspect me.....or clip... anyone have any experience with this
model 88 gewher stripper/en blok system? thanks

I answered your question on general discussion where you posted. 0 -
thanks I posted wrong place. got the clip (new) with hole in it but cartridges are
hard to insert into clip, hold very tight. tried bending open the clip and joint
failed. have no idea of what is correct, no one here either, owner etc.
would like to shoot this fine sporting high grade rifle but until I figure out
this system, at a loss here. watched you tube video of a model88 , cartridges
went easily into clip, clip right into magazine well etc. Is a Haenel mannlicher
require something different?0 -

You can send me your pic's and I will try to post them for you. I'm no expert at it.
Click on my name and send me a contact msg.0 -
yes only my clip was new, my rounds loaded with 196 round nose sp.
i experienced lots of contact pressure at cartridge neck from clip front , causing
scratches on cartridge shoulder.....normal?
there is a so called " gewher specialist" visiting soon , will see what he has to
say and see. this is high quality german bring back that has been in the closet
all this time. express sights/pivot peep/rib oct barrel/dual pop up front beads, spoon bolt, etc etc.
I did chamber/bore cast, headspace/bolt setback check, striker etc.
ready to do service as a fine walking stalking rifle if only it would feed.0 -
answer me this...does a empty clip drop easily down into the magazine without
contacting magazine side walls? Do the cartridges insert easily into clip from the front
with rim over the channel or do they require loading down into clip top with rim in channel?
will a empty clip , easily on its own weight drop out the bottom of magazine? will a loaded clip eject easily out the top of magazine when trigger guard released is pushed?
what is the correct back width measurement , height measurement , lenght measurements of a clip?
i know nothing of these matters to determine correct function.0 -
Jae
your clip might be for a 7.35 Finn (Carcano)which would be just a mite smaller than the 8mm........but I'm guessing.0 -

There were a number of different bolt rifles in the late 19th Century that used the Mannlicher clip system. Although they functioned similarly. Don't believe the clps were the same.
Do a GOOGLE image search. Using some form of "Mannlicher clips" as your search term. When the photos are shown, see if you can identify the specific clip of the G 88.0 -
tried that all week, thats why I came here. I dont know enough to know
what to look for. there is no clip with the rifle, been in closet since IKE was president,
"liberated" by now long since gone ww2 veteran.
I would like to exchange email address with someone and send pics, maybe a
trained eye can spot the problem. I feel very strongly there is no problem with the
rifle , it is just getting my hands on the right clip and using it correctly.
it has a hindged door under the magazine to close off the bottom and double
set triggers.0 -
Hinged door? Have you tried just pressing the rounds into the magazine and seeing if it has been converted to stripper clips? The presence of a charger guide milled into the rear receiver ring would be a dead giveaway.
The Nazis did have to reissue commission rifles in the last days of ww2 and they were converted to Mauser clips, I believe. Some of the forces arrayed against the British at Arnhem were armed with M.1888s I believe.0 -
aware of that military mod. no slot or thumb cut on this sporter for a stripper clip, and no
magazine side wall retainer for top round control.0
