1903 springfield windage knob

hello- I have a 1903 springfield sight apart and have the windage knob unit out, can anyone tell me how to get the knurled knob off of the stem? is it screwed on and peened pressed and pined or????? thanks also can anyone tell me if the springfield 1903 flipup ladder and base will fit and work in a buffington trapdoor sight barrel mount
