Remington Modelel 25
I have a Remington Model 25 with a Lyman tang peep rear sight. It appears to have been professionally installed on the rear of the receiver just ahead of the wood of the stock. I have also seen other Model 25 rifles with the same configuration. Was this installed by Remington?

Remington WOULD sell you a rifle with factory installed Lyman sight.
I don't know if you can show that Remington DID set YOUR rifle up that way.
Do you have an open sight, too?0 -

According to Nick Stroebel's book, Old Gunsights and Rifle scopes, the Remington Model 25 used a proprietary front sight that dovetailed into the barrel. It used several different rear sights. Lyman supplied both the No.1A and No.2A tang sight, the Code number is R25. Marble also supplied the Marble Flexible(tang) and it code is R11"
Look at the finish under the sight for a clue.

King also had a tang sight for it ($$$). Marbles also had one.
These are wonderful, highly sought after rifles that the deceased author of Cartridges Of The World said would be the last gun he's ever sell.
He preferred the 32-20. I agree with him on both points.
Factory literature said the 25 is rated for high speed ammo.
At least one tang sight model required installing a wood screw above the pistol grip in addition to the two factory threaded holes in the receiver rear.
I didn't want to drill the stock in my 99% Mod 25.
Some rifles out there are scope and peep sight mounted which is justified by the rifle's accuracy but detract from collector's value as they are after market requiring extra holes in the receiver.0 -
Thank you all for the valuable information. 0 -

That's true, I never thought of that. Guess that means I'm a rare breed too.0
