Winchester model 70???
I have a Winchester model 70, my question is this. How do you tell which model 70 it is? There are a lot of different variations of the model 70 I know but is there an easy tell? It has a black ebony tip but does not look like a high end rifle

Thank you for your help.0 -
Serial number is a start, then advise the exact barrel stampings. Caliber could be a clue, too. 0 -
Post some good well lit pic's or go look on the auction side for one that looks just like yours. 0 -

Based on the ser# it's probably from the 90's. I stand corrected 0 -
Serial# is from 1974 around 1974 or so and the standard grade rifle got a black forend tip for a very short time according to the book I have other wise the deluxe model got the ebony tip 0 -
I have a 1973 era model 70 in 270, ebony grip cap and for end, pressed checkering, I believe your gun is of the same vintage.
I also have two pre 64 model 70s in 270, a standard rifle and a Featherweight. The 1973 era rifle shots better than either of the pre 64s. I have no explanation.

Do you have an estimated value or starting price for one in sub excellent condition 0 -
$600 0 -
They also made a Model 70 XTR back in that time frame.
Sub excellent condition? There are many grades depending on how sub-excellent it is. Excellent you are talking bout $500.00-600.00 for a push feed gun.0
