It' an early finger groove "Sporter" stock for a Ruger 10/22. Note the screw hole to hold the stock on and the cut to aid in magazine removal. A 44 magnum had neither of these.

You guys are great. Thought we had inquired about this before and searched the forums but somehow did not see it. Old eyes I guess. Must need new glasses. Thanks again!!

Will any standard 10/22 barrel and action fit this? Or is that kind of a dumb question?

A good question, actually. Normally these stocks are interchangable but very slight differences in sizes of stock or actions do occur. A little inletting of the stock by sanding or scraping may be necessary to get the action to seat easily, or on the other hand, the action may be slightly loose. You have to try an action in your stock to see how it fits. I tried a modern 10/22 in my old finger groove stock like yours and it wouldn't seat all the way, almost but not quite. I could make it fit fairly easily but I don't want to mess with my stock. I put the old barreled action back in the old stock where it belonged.
