According to Bert's thread http://forums.GunBroker.com/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=245213, the last 94 manufactured in 1963 was actually 2,600,011. Based on those numbers, yours should be a Pre-1964 model.

Yes, it's a pre64 through and through. And I read that thread about 1963 ending in 2600011, but I have read on many other sites, that 2586000 was the last 63, and there were some rifles made in 1964, that were pre-64 in construction.

For instance, this site puts it at 1964.
    http://oldguns.net/sn_php/windateslookup.php

This site, says... The serial # from my gun, was not used, but obviously it was. [:D]

    http://guncollectionsonline.com/winchestermodel94.htm

This site, says 1963 ends with 2586000. It also says...
"Production figures for 1943 1948 and 1964 are unknown. Later figures from 1948 on are from records at U.S. Repeating Arms, and may be off one year, especially for the years 71 , 72, 74,75, 76, and 79."

My rifle has a serial number of 2586117, so at the very least, it appears to be one of the last pre-64's made. Just not 100% for sure what year it was made...

The information you found on the internet stating that serial number 2586000 was the last pre-64 was all copied from one source, and unfortunately, the one source was not accurate. Pre-1964 production for the Model 94 ended with serial number 2600011 in February of 1963. Production of the Post-63 Model 94 Carbines began in early 1964 at serial number 2700000. All serial numbers in the 2600012 - 2699999 were skipped.

For those looking for an accurate source of Winchester DOM information available on the internet, add this website link to your Favorites or Bookmarks list - http://winchestercollector.org/dates/

I created the tables used for it directly from the original Winchester serialization records at the Cody Firearms Museum (CFM). If you desire more than just the year of manufacture, contact the CFM records office for a DOM letter, or a Factory letter.

    OK thanks for the info.

There is a lot of confusing information out there, including information that some pre64's were actually made in 1964....

So, you are saying, all pre64 model 1894 production stopped in February of 1963....

I had not read that before. So thanks.

Yes, that is correct. Serial numbers 2600010 & 2600011 were shipped as a pair in February of 1963.

I had read something about those two rifles, but thought they were made later than that. Thanks again for the info.

Can you tell me where the date info comes from that is found the Oldguns.net site? Those dates do not correspond to those found at the link you posted above. Thanks,

    Mark,

The information on the website you mention (and on most other websites for that matter) was copied from the published works of George Madis. Unfortunately, he did not refer to, or use the actual Winchester serialization records. In the past several years, I have written several articles about this very topic, dicussing the discrepancies in his reference books, and where the correct (verified) information can be found and used. Starting in 2006, I spent the next few years putting together a new reference document that I later used in "The RED BOOK of WINCHESTER Values" (chapter 8), first published in 2011. Since that time, I have updated and refined it, and then republished it in the 2nd and 3rd editions of the Red Book. Continuing research has found a few more items to add to chapter 8 for the upcoming 4th edition. The serial number look-up tool on the WACA website was built using the serial number information I compiled from the original Winchester records at the Cody Firearms Museum.

    Bert,
I was aware of your book and figured the dates I referred to came from Madis but thank you for the clarification. It is an interesting comparison.
