The Model 55 was a very unique design. As it was, what is called an "Open Bolt". The firing pin was a fixed machined ridge or protrusion, on the face of the bolt.

Very few .22's were made as "Open Bolts". French Gevarm being the most common. Many were imported between the 50's and the 80's. Until the feds slammed the door on them, in the late 80's. Because of the Open Bolt mechanism.
