The Colt .32 Det Spcl was designed for the .32 Long Colt (S&W long) which is considerably lower in operating pressure than the recent attempts to make the .32 a more effective defensive caliber. I wouldn't recommend the combination.

The .32 H&R mag produces up to 400 ft lbs of energy; the .32 long cartridge, for which this revolver was designed, produces up to 130 ft lbs.

    We report, you decide.

Unless the chambers have been machined/reamed? To accept the longer in overall length 32 H & R mag ammo? Won't fit, as they are .070+ longer than the S & W Longs.

This frame was designed to shoot the more powerful 38 special as well as 22LR and 32 S&W long, known as 32 New Police by Colt.

There was one gunsmith who did a lively business rechambering Colt Police Positive Specials from .32 Colt PP (.32 S&W Long) to .32 H&R Magnum when that round was new. Numrich even had some .32 barrels and cylinders that were rechambered and fitted to convert .38s.

But as rufe says, you can't "use" .32 H&R in a .32 long gun. Same deal as .357 vs .38, they lengthened the cartridge to keep it out of old guns. I would not rechamber an old .32 Hand Ejector.

Police Positives and Police Positive Specials have different cylinder lengths.
The Numrich cylinders were for the specials.
