DOM, is 1979/80, according to SCSW. This book is the basic reference source, for S & W collectors.

Model 41's, have evolved into big buck collectors items. Even recently made ones are over $1000+.

If it factory original? And in at least VG condition. Jump on it, if it's $800 or less. Check the actual prices they are selling for on the auction, for a eye opener!

Some of the old ones are really, really good shooters.

added Cool post some pic's and get at least 5 magazines for it.

added 2 It is really hard to learn to shoot a pistol well with a poorly shooting pistol. I spent years throwing lead with dad's rat grade loose as a goose 1911, I could have caught dinner better throwing rocks. After I spent time with a good pistol I was able to work on my errors. I can now somewhat shoot that wore out 1911 way better than before.

hello Tone they made a number of different configurations there was a light weight 5" sport barrel a 5" heavy BULL barrel a 5" with a front sight in a dovetail that you could slide back & forth to change sight radius and a 7&1/2 inch barrel early guns also had MUZZLE brake and barrel weight that was removable. Great pistols many Top Bulls-Eye shooters used them at Camp Perry when I started shooting The 5" with adjustable sight radius brings the most money they also may a less costly model 46 that at one time became pricey and collector item because they did not make many also one in 22 Short only aluminum slide

    thank you guys

    EDIT:
    The asking price was $1000.
    I offered a Taurus PT-22 and cash.
They will take the PT-22 and $700.
    Giving it some serious thought.

    EDIT II:
Not too surprised he is willing to take the Taurus.
Same guy that took my Rossi plinker and $200 for a SW 19-3 last year.

I have been keeping my eyes open for a 41 since I let go of one 7 years ago.
After taking a closer look at it,I am going to offer the Taurus and $500 tomorrow.

IMHO, anytime you have someone will is willing to take any kind of Taurus, as a part of a trade. (Specially if it's a Smith 41 ) Just do it! You will be way ahead, and come out smelling like a rose.

DO IT & DON"T look back
EDIT If you don't get it even if you have to go to $700.00 imho you are making a mistake.EDIT IN the future the slight bit of disappointment you feel now will turn into one of your favorite pistols to shoot

    Got it.
    $800 tax included cash deal.
He would not give more than $100 on the Taurus.
He held firm at the Taurus + 700.
Thought id keep the pt-22 for $100.
A couple more light scratches on the muzzle end than I had thought.
    EDIT:
I did notice the scratches before making the deal.
In the initial post I had the gun at 98%.
    Now about 95%.
I will feel very good about the deal if it shoots well.

    EDIT:
    Picking it up 2-28.
Hope to have it at the range that week.

    Shoots very well.

With an accomplished marksman behind it(not me).
10 shots made one 5/8in. hole at 7 yards.
I then fired 3 types of ammo (140rds) with no issues.

My gunsmith thinks its been fired very little.
The marks in the bluing are hard to find without certain lighting.
    Grips are nearly perfect.
Very nice and fun to shoot gun.

Thank you guys for encouraging me to get this one.
