Wards western field model 10
I have a western field model 10-sd247a that was suppose to be my grandfathers first shot gun that he got as a kid. He was born in 1921. He handed it down to my father as his first gun when he was a kid. My father handed it down to me. I'm 48.
I was wondering when the shot gun might have been manufactured?
It had been missing the trigger guard since my father had it and I finally found one that I installed tonight. It got me wondering how old it is. Is seems to be in nice shape.

I think it is a Stevens 94B (tenite) from a cross over list. The best guesses range 1940 to 1960. Not sure Gramps was kid, but certainly a young man. 0 -
According to the Proof House site. "Model 10-SD247A, is the Stevens model 94B".
Stevens was owned by Savage, from the early 1920's. Lot of their Utility/Hardware/Store Brand guns. Were made by Stevens. No serial numbers were required, and few records kept. Likely if your Grand dad was born in 21, it dates to the 30's.
Edit #1,
IF the stock is brown plastic, as Charlie noted. It narrows the DOM down some. Stevens only used Tenite for a short period. Before and after W W II. It was to fragile, so they dropped it, circa 1950.0 -
Thanks for your input.
I've read some topics where they talk about the plastic stock and grip. on this shot gun both are wood. There is also a 94B stamped on the right hand side of the action.
Also the trigger guard was really hard to find. The front of the guard had the post with the nut that went into the action. I had to take the hammer out to get the screw down into the action to screw into the guard. Must have been one of the first designs.0
