Looks 7.62 x 54 Russian at first glance. 0 -
I agree with Charliemyer. Looks like 7.62x54. The cases are usually copperwashed steel and the bullets may be copper clad or washed steel as well or at least have steel cores. Very often the primers are corrosive. Frequently the ammo comes wrapped in paper and tied with string. Often sold in metal cans holding 440 rounds. They are routinely fired in Russian and Finnish Mosin-Nagant bolt action rifles, Models 91, 91-30,24, 27, 28, 28-30,38, 39, and 44.
The Model 44 carbines were also made in Bulgaria,Hungary, China, Romania, and Poland. Russia made a semi-auto rifle(Tokarev) that fired the 7.62x54 and there was a Dragunov semi-auto sniper rifle as well.0 -
they did come in a metal can (ammo can) and were wrapped in paper without string.
I have 240 of them and the can. value?0 -
What the 30-06 is to the U.S., the 7.62x54 is to the rest of the world. It is shooting ammo with little or no collector value except for a few uncommon variations. 0 -
thanks for the replies.
maybe i'll just buy a rifle and have some fun with the 240 rounds then sell the rifle[:D]0 -
Some of the old "mosies" shoot really good. My preference would be a model 95 Winchester.
When I bought a 15# drum of H870 for $5, dad ask me what I was going to shoot it in "I don't know yet but I'll buy a rifle if needed"0 -
Headstamp 60/85 indicates it was loaded at the former Soviet plant in Frunze in 1985. The plant closed in 1991 and Frunze, now known as Bishkek, is the capital and the largest city in Kyrgyzstan. Good shooting ammo, but no value above that. 0 -

jw,
Whom measured that bullet @ .3055 diameter?
It's high for a good micrometer or caliper, mate.0
