    What Bert is trying to tell you, is that they had several variations and special orders...even within short serial number ranges. If you give him the EXACT serial number, he can give you the exact configuration your gun left the factory in, and most likely down to within the exact day it was made...this is NOT a joke!

    Exact serial number will not yield records of configuration on a 62 or 62A. There are no records beyond the polishing room records recording dates that serial numbers were stamped.

    However, many Winchester production changes can be fairly narrowly dated by the serial number, and having the complete number is better than a bunch of XXX's.

    XXX out the real number serves NO legitimate purpose and only frustrates collectors.

    That said, I just went to a safe and pulled out some 62's, lowest #2442, highest in the 99,000's (I cannot remember the exact number). All had the short forearm
