Stevens 311A 410
I just got a very nice Stevens 311A double in 410, it has the case colored receiver and wood stock and for arm. What year did Stevens quit the wood stocks and go to plastic? The gun has no serial number.
Thanks for looking.

No serno means pre-68 but all my books are in the shop. Don't have the Blue Book handy? It might give a clue or two. 0 -
Plastic, or "Tenite" stocks were introduced in 1940, and dropped in 1951. The 311 series had them from 1948 to 1951. 0 -
Thank you.

Capn,

from what little i seen of those they bring good money 0 -
What little I know is that my 311A in 410(case colored and wood)was made in 1952.
This is indicated by the letter D stamped within a circle located on the inside of the frame.
Stevens began this type coding with a circled A on doubles in 1949. Then continued for 22 years with the exclusion of letters O and Q.
I believe the initial question was answered by TRAP55.
And yes, they are bringing good money.
700-800 for a nice one.
Just my 2 cents.0 -

I have a Stevens 311 410 double that I gave to my mom years ago as her "bedside" firearm, just what she wanted, and now I have it back. I have shot it only a few times slugs and birdshot, but it is a fun little shotgun. Pretty surprised what they seem to be worth these days.
I learned to shoot dove with a 410 bolt action single shot and it was pretty great at 12 years old to bring home a limit when the rest of the group with their "big" guns didn't limit out just because I knew where to get the close shots at my favorite spot near a creek. Other bonus was that since my birds generally only had one or two pellets in them, they were much nicer to clean up and cook especially compared to some taken too close with a 12 ga that were basically shredded.0
