Crimping rifle shells

What has priority when crimping rifle loads? Crimping on the serrated area or overall length if the two do not match? Case length is correct.

  Depends what rifle and cartridge you are working with. Lever guns with a tube magazine usually need a heavy crimp and the OAL better not be too long. A bolt gun in a African big game round gets a heavy crimp but OAL is less critical.

  IF YOU ARE USING A 'ROLL CRIMP' DIE YOU MUST CRIMP INTO THE CATELURE (GROVE), ONLY EXCEPTION IS THE LEE FACTORY CRIMP DIE.

  You can buy or make a tool to put a cannelure anywhere you want in a bullet.
