Republican Rome is probably the closest system to what you advoate....with a governing aristocracy holding power.

The problem with disenfranching "the mob" is that it creates inherent instability...the kind of instability that brought down the Roman Republic.

All Governmental systems have flaws...all of them, which is why no civilization has ever created a system of government that has lasted more than a few hundred years.

There is nothing wrong with the way our government was originally set up. The problem is this government is not at all what it was supposed to be. It is supposed to be small. Jefferson would be outraged. This government has become everything it was not supposed to be. As it is it cannot last much longer. The people are arming themselves and it ain't for hunting ducks. That is why the Democrats are so intent to disarm us.
The second amendment is the only thing standing in the way of total tyranny. All included I figure I pay about 75% tax. Everything you touch is taxed to basically buy votes for both parties.
Obama care was setup to establish insurance companies as a tax collection system for the government. The only people who gained in that case were the welfare class and it guarentees that they will never raise above that class. Welfare and socialism are guarenteed poverty.

Democracy is two wolves and a lamb deciding on what to have for dinner.

A Constitutional Republic is two wolves and a lamb deciding on what to have for dinner with a law that states lamb can't be eaten for dinner and Supreme Court deciding that mutton isn't lamb.
