HOW MUCH IS A 357 SMITH AND WESSON HAND GUN WORTH? 9 1/2 WITH 4 INCH BARRELL , BRAND NEW STAINLESS STEELE 0 -
Believe you have possibly used the wrong serial number sequence?
The alphanumeric serial number range. With the "J" in the second position, I.E. XJXXXX, Date to 1983.
Nickel plated Smiths can be problematic. Many have been renickeled, after liveing the factory. See if the original case hardened finish, is still on the hammer and trigger. Many that have been renickeled, have had the hammer and trigger, also nickel plated.0 -
The number sequence is correct.....it's.2 numbers the j followed by 3 numbers....the hammer and trigger are not nickel.....barrel is pinned 0 -
It would be easier for us if you would post photos of your revolver. Be sure to show the BOTTOM of the grip frame, the BOTTOM of the barrel, the BACK SIDE of the cylinder, & the SIDES of the grip frame with the grips removed. Also, the BACK of the grips.
It's OK to show the entire SN here, although there may be some slight risk if you live in MD, CA, NY, or NJ. If you are worried just cover the low order digit (the number on the right end) with tape.

"The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" Is the basic reference. For Smith & Wesson collectors. It's reference section, has the best comprehensive data on S & W serialization. The serial number format, on your revolver. Doesn't appear in the SCSW.
Best to give the customer service folks, at S & W a call. Hopefully they will be able to explain. The odd serialization, on your revolver.0
