Taurus pt111 G2 guide rod
I just purchased a new taurus pt111 G2. I want to replace the guide rod and spring. When I look they offer different weights (ex 16#,18#,20#). What's the difference in them? Does one absorb recoil better? Or would I have to worry about the slide racking all the way back? Etc.

It's a trial and error thing. In loads utilizing heavier, non standard weight bullets. Or if you reload, with barn burner, red line type loads. A heavier weight recoil spring is recommended, to cut down battering of frame.
If you are just shooting standard bullet weight. U.S. made commercial ammo, in your pistol. I wouldn't worry about it. Unless you intend to shoot thousands a rounds a year. In that case the Taurus will probably self destruct anyway. The weight of the recoil spring, will be the least of your problems.0
