CA. sales ????
Have a S&W model 625 in 45acp for sale with an interested buyer in California. He says that the gun is illegal down there. Is a 6 shot revolver a no-no in the State of California now days?? Thanks.

Handguns must be on the CA roster. You are welcome to figure out if the gun in question is legal.

I couldn't get Neal's link to work, so I'm providing this one:
http://certguns.doj.ca.gov/
In any case, there are a grand total of two S&W 625's on the CA DOJ roster of approved handguns:
625-8 (Satin Stnls) SKU 170161A / Steel Revolver 4" .45 ACP
625-8 JM SKU 160936A / Steel Revolver 4" .45 ACP
To be eligible for over the counter sales in CA the pistol you are planning to sell must be one of those two...EXACTLY. Different revision number, barrel length or finish than what is listed? Forget about it.0 -

The gun is not "illegal" in CA but can't be sent from out of state into the state via the usual FFL route. Were it already here selling it back & forth between "private party" buyers is perfectly legal.
Re the CA Roster, note the additional "A" and "B" information on the CA DOJ page. As mentioned the gun being sold must be exactly the one OK'd for sale in CA, unless one of the specific exemptions is met such as C&R eligible, intra-familial transfer or single action revolver among others.
A single action revolver isn't what we consider the old Colt SAA or "cowboy" style but would include SA versions of the Colt OMM or Smith Model 14. I've had Smith 25s and a Colt Anaconda recently brought in under the SA exemption. Checking with the receiving FFL is a definite "must do" before taking that approach.0 -
Of course, an 01 or 02 FFL in CA CAN buy a gun- they may not be able to sell it in CA, but they can sell it elsewhere and ship to another FFL. 0
