    How heavy is it?
    It sticks in my head that the .375 came out with a standard diameter barrel which the big hole made a lightweight and the big bullet made a hard kicker. It was soon replaced with a heavier profile.

    Hawk - it wasn't like any listed on GB now, but I wouldn't consider it a bull barrel. It appeared to have the correct Winchester sights and markings on it. I wondered if it could have been an option in '56. The barrel had very little taper to it. Everything else on the rifle appeared correct....

    Post some pic's, it sounds like an interesting rifle.

    Well I know how that goes BTDT. I though I read the 375 came only in a 25" barrel. Hopefully Burt will be kind enough to set us all straight on the facts.

    I have limited experience with the 375 H&H, I find it sort of too big and too little at the same time. However, any good shooter would always be welcome into the family.

    Charlie - wish I had taken a couple, but didn't - my bad.... It had a red recoil pad that looked original, no "hump in the barrel" under the rear roll over sight and hooded front. Stock hadn't been altered that I could tell, and didn't have Lyman sights. If I go back they may know I want it and won't deal.... [:)]

    Oh yeah, it didn't have a super grade stock, just a regular one, and appeared to be a 26" barrel....

    According to Roger Rule, the Model 70 in 375 H&H Magnum was offered in three different barrel contours and two lengths;

    1. 24-inch Standard weight
    2. 24-inch Medium Heavy weight
    3. 25-inch Medium Contour #1

    1. The 375 H&H Magnum was offered in the Standard rifle with barrel options 1 & 2 from 1937 - 1945, and with barrel option 3 from 1940 - 1959.

    2. The 375 H&H Magnum was offered in the Alaskan rifle with barrel option 3 from 1960 - 1963.

    3. The 375 H&H Magnum was offered in the Super Grade rifle with barrel options 1 & 2 from 1937 - 1939, and in barrel option 3 from 1939 - 1959.

    Based on the stated 1956 production date, the rifle in question should have barrel option 3 (a 25-inch Medium contour #1).

    Thanks Bert! I probably misjudged the barrel length. Didn't have a tape. Possibly the gun is a '55 as well. Ser# was 350xxx. Thanks again! - Donny

    Serial numbers 350000 - 359999 were all manufactured in September of 1955. The only barrel length and size offered at that time was the 25-inch Medium Contour #1.
