1911 slide
I recently purchased a box of "stuff" which included a Colt military marked slide. It has no finish left, but no rust or damage either. It has the firing pin and the rest of the associated rear parts. It would be pre-WW2 according to a friend who examined it for me. I'm trying to figure out a value. Any help would be appreciated.

bought striped slide for 1911 colt (colt slide) behind the rear sight and before hammer there is a threaded hole. What is the purpose of this hole>
Thanks

Post some good pic's with the markings. 0 -
good pictures are a must there were many small changes for markings on slides needless to say lack of any original finish will really hurt value 0 -
Is there a good way to post pictures from a smart phone? So far the only explanation of posting pictures given by anyone on this forum appears to follow a convoluted path that requires the loading of pictures first onto my PC and then using a servide. 0 -

I doubt that good pic's are easily obtained with a smart phone. Yahoo's Flickr is still free and I bet you could have the phone upload your pic's to your flicker account. Then come back here and post the links to the pic's using the yellow image icon box - 4th from the right at the top the post/reply screen.
Go look at some auctions that have pic's. Now imagine you are interested in buying something expensive, You will quickly understand the difference between a good pic - in focus, well lit with enough detail to clearly see the marking (chalk can help) and those that only confirm that yea it looks like a 1911A1 slide.
While you are looking at auctions - do an advance search on completed ones for say 1911 and 1911A1 slides and see what ones in your brand and condition have actually sold for.0 -
Good advice from Charlie.
But, realistically, the only use for a slide with no finish is to put together a parkerized "parts" gun that looks like one that has been arsenal rebuilt. Such guns usually have mixed parts, so the exact variation doesn't really matter.
I would expect your slide to bring $100-200.

pop fire pin retainer and see if serial number is there [:0] 0 -
There is no number under the firing pin retainer.
And, Charlie, my camera takes 12mp pictures, but my smart phone has considerably higher resolution. I've been sending pictures taken with the smart phone to individuals for some time now, and no one has mentioned a problem seeing details. My weakness is posting pictures, not taking them.0 -
I'll just take nmyers' suggestion. Thanks for looking. 0
