Adjustment Rings for Browning A5, et al
I just bought another long recoil operated shotgun. Over the years, I've encountered a few different ways to set the rings for various shot shell loads. What I do is: Rub fine steel wool on the magazine tube to clean and polish it. Then put some light oil on the tube and wipe it ALL off, leaving only a trace/memory of lube on it. I re-install the recoil spring and put the washer on with the cup side toward the muzzle for heavy loads, or the flat side towards the muzzle for light loads. And then, slide on the bronze friction ring, and re-install the barrel.
What set-up is appropriate? I have an A5, a Savage 775, Remington 11-48, Ithaca 300.
EDIT: Charlie, The 300XL is a gas gun. The earlier 300 is recoil operated. But thanks, anyway.

I would think you could find online the operator's manual each of them easy enough.
What is the intermediate load set up?
So I just looked at a PDF for the Ithaca SKB 300 XL / 900 XL. There is a selector setting L and H. Mag loads in 2.75" and 3" use H all other loads use L. They suggest not taking the selector assembly apart.

Do a search on "Browning A5 friction ring set up." The correct info is there. 0 -
for the a-5 the washer goes on 1st flat side up for 'light loads', medium loads= washer on top of spring with beveled side down, heavey loads=beveled side up then the friction piece. I've even seen a list that varied the 'weight' of the oil for fine tuning (sae 10/20/30 ect.) 0 -
I'm not familiar with the moderate load setting. Light and heavy loads only as I recall. 0 -

Those are the only two.
Never install the friction ring with the inside bevel toward the spring. It will compress the end of the spring against the mag tube and cause gouging.
Don't bother asking how I know 'cause I'll admit, I got in a hurry and fouled up with my friction ring. Three shots was all it took to cause failure to cycle.

As to the Remington 11-48, there's nothing to change. The 11-48 recoil system is self regulating.
OK, found it.
