Winchester 1892
I received a model 1892 in 38wcf from a friend who passed away recently. Very smooth lever action, octagon barrel, full magazine, solid frame, metal crescent butt plate, lots of scratching on the wood, the finish on the receiver is good, the rifle could use some good cleaning overall, manufactured in 1897. Any idea what this is worth?
Thanks in advance.

Just received a winchester 1892 that I bought. The barrel is drilled and tapped for a scope which the pictures didn't show and buyer failed to mention. None of them came from the factory like that did they. 0 -
Try not filling the magazine and see if it happens. Try some other ammo.
added Try putting the first round directly in the chamber, close the bolt - make safe, then load the magazine. See if the next round jams after firing the first.
added2 I think the recoil of a proper load would do the job, or perhaps smack the butt on the ground.0 -
A Winchester? Sounds like the infamous "Marlin Jam" 0 -
Does not matter how many I put in it, the first one always jams. 0 -
What bullet shape? Regular RN with small flat? 0 -
flat nose 0 -
It might not feed everything, you might have to find a round it likes to feed. 0 -
I would try complete cleaning, lubricating of action and then operate the action fairly fast several times no load just to insure proper lubrication to all moving parts and see how it works. 0 -
Found the problem. I took it to a local gunsmith last year to see if he could solve it. He had it a month, charged me $100. & didn't fix anything that I could tell. I looked at it on Sat. When I loaded it & used a dowel rod & pushed the last round in as far as I could it would solve the problem, sometimes. So I looked closer at how the last round loaded would be positioned after loading,& finally seem that it sit slightly angled with the rim catching on the inner lip of the loading door causing it to not seat properly in the carrier & the nose of the bullet catching on the frame, not allowing it to raise. When backing off the lever it would seat properly & function fine, & the rest of the rounds would all seat in the carrier fine. To solve I need to use a small pocket screw driver & insert in the frontloading gate gap & make sure the rim is not hung up there. Worked every time. 0
