Breda rifle
I have this Breda marked rifle with a rotary magazine. Its only the action that could be worth any money as the barrel and stock are poor.
I can't find any auctions on GB for this type of rifle and was wondering if anyone has seen sales of this type of gun.
Action is VG and its marked Breda also has 1928 on it as well as what looks like a Swiss marking on the receiver ring.
Any help would be appreciated.
I cannot post pictures.
Thanks.

I have an old rifle called a Breda. It is dated 1927 after Breda on the side. The markings on top of the receiver is a cross inside a square and Y.1903/14. It has a proof mark or something on the left side of the barrel and receiver and a small star on top of the barrel. It is a split receiver and has a flat bolt handel and a Manlicher style walnut stock with a cheek piece and fold down rear sight. The serial is Axxx. I would like to know what caliber it is and approximate value.
Thanks

Probably a Greek surplus Mannlicher Shoenauer.
Wiki says Greece got 105,000 Mannlicher rifles from Breda 1927-1930.0 -

+1, Bunch of them came in as surplus in the 60's. Most of them, were same condition as yours, trashed. Some were bought for customising. But because of the rotary magazine, it proved quite problematical. If any caliber, other than the original 6.5 X 54 rimless was desired.
They dried up years ago. As only a limited number were imported, in the 60's. Put it on the auction. You might be pleasantly surprised. Military rifle collector might buy it, even though the condition is poor. Greece was involved so many wars, and the German occupation. Not many of the Greek Mannlichers survived in any condition.0 -
It does sound like a Breda manufactured Greek Model 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer design rifle. You will often find them listed on GunBroker under the Mannlicher Schoenauer offerings. I bought one myself a few years back, and rebarreled and restocked the action to make a dandy little 6.5x54 M-S carbine with full stock, which came out very nice and which I gave to one of my grandsons. He shot his first deer in Pennsylvania last season with it. The 6.5 x 54 M-S cartridge is superb, offered with long bullets of 160 grains weight, lots of lead exposed for expansion, high sectional density for good penetration, modest recoil, and good accuracy. The rotary magazine is closely fitted to that cartridge only, and is difficult to change to anything else. 0 -
chicoppee,
Agreed, this is a Greek Model 1903 Mannlicher Schoenauer. If you don't want to sell it, decide to build a nice, handy, hunting rifle chambered for the 6.5 Mannlichter-Schoenauer cartridge. Just be sure to ask the gunsmith to use a modern reamer design which handles modern bullets better. It's a superb cartridge for most types of hunting except for the bigger bears...[;)]
Be sure your gunsmith understands that particular rotary magazine since there are a couple of small tricks to make that task easier.
Enjoy the Process!
