Can anyone help me with a S&W DOM?

I have a friend that has a S&W Pre 27 serial #163645 that he inherited and would like to know when it was made? Thank you.

  Should be a "S", prefix. I make it to be just prior to the Model 27. Approximately 56/57. Per SCSW.

  If you didn't give us the prefix, I'm guessing that you didn't get the SN that's on the bottom of the grip frame.

  Any idea how many "Pre 27" revolvers were made in their 10 year run?

  Many thousands. The 357 was introduced in 1935. Was very popular from the start. Probably more of the 357's were made, than any of the other calibers. In the S & W, large frame revolvers.
