S & W M & P
Just bought a Smith M & P. I'm not a plastic gun" liker but in CA these are hard to find, price was right & decided to try something new. I know Smith has more aggressive backstraps for the pistol but can't find them anywhere. Does anyone have a source or can guide to where they're available? Can't find them on the Smith website either.

Wow what a crappy website they have these days. I found this there
https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/performance-center-ported-slide-kits-mp-9-1.
A small in stock http://www.brownells.com/handgun-parts/frame-parts/backstraps/back-strap-small-prod23190.aspx
They can keep their plastic guns IMHO.
added Stippling can be done well but I look at as Bubba checkering.0 -
There's two large sized ones over on the auction side for the M&P compact.

Fleabay also has a bunch.
Hope that helps.0 -
Start saving up your pennies for the S&W M&P 2.0. I was leafing through the new Recoil and saw that. Don't know if that'll make the CA roster but it's a coming.
For now get the soldering gun out and get a melting. Buy a few spares to practice on [:D].0 -
Doug,
PM me with what model you have, If I have that model, I will send you what I have.0 -

Not to get political, but as a practical matter all new model semi-auto pistols are banned from FFL dealer stock sale or transfer into state via the usual FFL route. Smith has one semi pistol "on roster" as does Ruger, no Colts. I got this one as "private party transfer" and it's not "private" as most states do it - still had to go through an FFL, paperwork, registration and 10 day wait. Since the Smith 2.0 doesn't have "microstamping" it won't get in, short of a court win by CA gunowners.
The gun is a full sized M & P. I'd rather not do the heat gun stippling. I've not seen any hand done work that looked quite right.0 -
I did a Google search for "M&P agressive backstrap" and found some options but not cheap:

What do you mean by aggressive? There are three backstraps of different sizes to accommodate hands of different sizes, but all have the same texture.
Got it, thanks Dfletcher. There are several shops that will do stippling if you don't mind paying, and I have seen some DIY stippling jobs as good as shop work. Just a couple of options.0 -

The new 2.0 model M & P has a more aggressive texture to the backstrap. Same S, M & L sizing but the factory "stippling" on them is sharper. Nothing wrong with the older version, but I handled a 2.0 version and it was markedly better.0
