Paint removal-Browning SA-22
I just bought a Belgian Browning grade 1 stock set at a garage sale. Problem is it had been over sprayed with paint on most of the surface. Wood is perfect and finish underneath is typical Browning. Does anyone know what to use to remove the paint and leave the original finish?
Thanks
I can't tell what type of paint -looks like could be latex

I'd start with 'goo gone' 0 -
I think Goof Off was invented to take paint off of hardwood floors.

chicoppee,
One of the better smelling products is named CitriStrip:

I can usually find it at the home fix it stores, hardware stores and the like. This product is a gel so it stays adhered to the surface better than a liquid. It's also available in a liquid.

Great bunch of suggestions,Thanks
I will try one today and post results.0 -
Tried goo gone and goof off with zero results except I was $15 lighter.
Finally used Stripeze which did a terrific job but also took off the original finish.
Interesting to note finish on this grade 1 stock was thin and maybe a varnish or laquer that came off very easily. Wood is so dense that there will be no need to sand I'm just going to steel wool lightly !
Going to Tung oil it !0 -
Don't use steel wool! The little fibers get stuck in the wood and make a mess. Use very fine sandpaper, start with 220 and work down to 400 or so keeping your strokes with the grain. Lightly sand between coats of finish. 0 -
If you wipe the wood off, no steel wool fibers should be stuck in the wood.
If they are, you didn't sand it properly in the first place.0 -
The best strippers I've found are Dad's and Klean-Strip max strength. If you want a high gloss finish try Minwax hi gloss fast dry polyurethane in the spray can. I also use steel wool without any problems 0
