SCSW does not show a VAF series but VAM was in 1994.

The 3 letter prefix, serial numbers dates to 1984. They can be very confusing, to say the least.

According to the 3rd edition, of the SCSW, as H.C. notes. It shows that "VAM" prefix starting in 1994. It's possible, being there is the letter "F", in your serial number. It might predate 1994?

SCSW not much help, as it gives a range of over 2 years. Between 1994 & 1997. Might consider, calling the S & W customer service folks.
