Tanfoglio steel 9mm yay or nay
Hi guys!
I recently discovered the CZ platform and love my SAR K2 in .45 and I have a 9mm Tanfoglio coming.
Bet your life on these guns, or just range toys?

Go with what most of the cops/FBI, and the marines,(not all of them unfortunately). Glock platform.
CZ platform guns are nice, not all though,( I had a AT 84 years back, that was terrible, accuracy wise). To heavy with the steel frame though.0 -
Not to start a ruckus here, but my AT-84 will shoot as tight as my P-35. This may be why they only lasted a few thousand production pieces - Quality Control. I have had both standard size and compact Tanfoglios and they were satisfactory. I have never warmed up to the Glock, but I only spent 34 years in police work. I carried Sigs most of the time, mostly the P-229 and I believe it is the best out there. 0 -
I only have 4 Tanfoglio-made Witness pistols; 9mm, 2 38Supers & a 40s&w.
Never had a problem with any of them.
I like the Sar K2 .45 I got from CDNN, but I won't call it a Tanfoglio.
I like the slide/frame arrangement better than the "normal" setup; no annoying rattle, no unnecessary slop, much cleaner appearance.
Col. Cooper was a huge fan and promoter of the CZ style back when they weren't available here.0 -

In the interest of not starting a "CZ vs Tanfoglio" thread, which would surely max out @ 10 real quick, I'd have no hesitation depending on a Tanfoglio "CZ" style pistol. I have a few, they're very versatile and reliable. That the Tanfoglio has alot of cartridge interchangeability (slide & barrel) is a plus IMO. I have an "old model" smaller frame type with a 9mm, 41AE and 22 conversion kit set up. I also have a Match Elite in 9mm - single action with an excellent trigger.
I have a few CZs and like them fine too. But Tanfoglio makes an excellent product. Not quite as many accessories to fiddle with as CZ, but a fair amount still.
You'll have to know the difference between poly framed, old full sized, new full sized and compact of the Tanfoglio especially when buying magazines.0 -
I love 1911's, and have carried /shot them for years. A full size 1911 is hard to hide though, so I went with an all steel Wonder finish 45 Witness compact...which frankly isn't too compact but I'm big enough to hide it on me. Tanfoglio has historically made excellent handguns and I feel my gun is certainly no exception. Over 1500 rounds and not a single FTF, FTE or Fail to feed...that makes me prone towards trusting it with my life. 0 -

I've got an old all steel 9mm small frame (ie CZ-75 sized) Tanfoglio that would make a good service gun. It wouldn't be my first choice (I like the actual CZ75 a little better), but absolutely I'd trust this for "serious" use and I actually have carried it. This gun isn't a "toy".
Actual CZ-75? Heck yeah. Not so much in the USA, but tons of cops and soldiers carry that one on duty every day all over the planet. I might be in the minority here, but I'd rather have that as a service gun than a Glock.0 -
I'd say yay. They are well made utilitarian guns where the fit and finish is required. Better, IMO, than their Italian counterparts, the Beretta's. A CZ-75, licensed built copy. 0 -

I've A-B'd a Beretta 92 and Tanfoglio small frame 9mm, and preferred the Tanfoglio. That's subjective, of course, but in my hand the Tanfoglio felt better. Its a heavier pistol, so recoil is milder and carry a bit harder. I think DA pull on Tanfoglio is better. Standard CZ-75 platform can go "cocked and locked", Beretta cannot. But standard Tanfoglio doesn't have a decocking safety, either. Which is "better" is pretty subjective. There are Tanfoglio variants with decocking safeties (ie the Israeli Jericho pistol is basically that).
Beretta (again IMO) LOOKS nicer, and has a better finish then the standard utilitarian blued Tanfoglio. On the other hand, the "Wonder" finish is a nitrided finish like the Glock "Tenifer" but without overlying blackening. . .its a good finish.
On Tanfoglio vs CZ, I won't go into too much detail here, but the current Tanfoglio is not really a "licensed copy". The original Tanfoglio (TZ-75) from 25 years ago WAS a copy, but since then its design has evolved, and its not really the same gun anymore. Design, obviously, is similar, but most parts will NOT interchange, and there is a difference in the trigger safety.
Current Tanfoglio has a cool "dead man" type trigger block such that pulling the trigger takes pressure OFF the controlling spring. You get effectively the same trigger block effect as a Colt series 80 but without degrading the trigger pull.
Also, where as there used to be "one" CZ75, now there are a zillion different variants.0
