Choke size
Can someone give me an idea as to what choke is in the barrel of my Sears Ranger model 30. It is a 16 ga. There is a Y stamped on the bottom of the receiver. It is sized at .725. I not sure, but I beleave it might be a Full choke.

A 16 gauge bore is .662, so you cant be bigger than that. 0 -
....but .625 would be about right for a full choke in 16ga. 0 -
Here's a choke chart.

Bear in mind, any chart is just a guide. Just about every manufacturer has their own specs. Also, older guns made when fiber wads were the norm will have slightly more restriction for any given choke.0 -
I suggest you pattern your loads at 40 yards in a 30" circle, that will provide the most meaningful answer to what your effective choke is. 0 -
Your Ranger Model 30. Is a Stevens Model 520, sold by Sears with their, "store brand", name on it.
The only way I could see it having a .725 barrel I.D., Is if somebody swapped out the barrel group, from 16 gauge to 12 gauge.
The Stevens 520 was designed by John Browning. In the very early years, of the 20 Century. As a take down pump. Because it was a take down, the barrel group is easily removable.
I've never heard, of anybody swapping out 12 ad 16 gauge barrels on a 520. But anything is possible.0 -
My screw up. SORRY. Should of been .625 It is original in 16ga. 0
