Winny Ranger problem...Help
I traded for a Winchester Ranger AE 30-30,
and it was filled with crud.cleaned it up
pretty good and had a problem with the sear and
hammer assy.I finally give up and made a slave pin to
keep the sear in place and re-assembled the rifle.
Now when I rack the lever the hammer does not stay back.
The innards of this rifle Ser# 5298079 are different then
my Rossi 92 and Winny 94. Just noticed the lever seems to
have a lot of lateral play as well.
Pls help
Thanks

The AE's = Angle Eject. Were the product of U.S. Repeating Arms, not Winchester. Dating to the 80's. Supposedly the angle eject guns, allowed a low mounted scope and a beefed up action. For the .356 and .307 cartridges. These cartridges were a flop, and quickly were dropped, in a short time.
Because of the angle ejection, and beefed up innards, they are different from the earlier 94's, as you noted. Also the "Ranger" rifles were made as low priced "Store Brand" guns. In light of all these negatives. I wouldn't even try to fix it. Part it out on our auction. Hopefully you will be able to recover, the money you had invested in the trade.0 -
Rufe, thanks for the info but the rifle fired before
I dis-assembled it and doesn't now.
I must have a part installed wrong.0 -

Try www.elsewhere.com
They have a section on 94's. You might be able to get some info there.
