SKB has a really bumpy past. They made their own guns, then the had $$ troubles and Weatherby started making them. Then they began making their own again. I can't remember how many times they have been in and out of business. I've had quite a few of their O/U's in the past and they are great guns. The box lock action is probably the strongest one out there. There seems to be a stigma with SKB's though, and people don't want them all that bad. Not sure if it's because they have trouble staying in business or what. If you decide that you don't like the gun it might be tough to get rid of w/o taking a hit, unless you get into it right.

Hello - a friend of mine bought an SKB-Ithaca 900 semi-auto at a church event - and yes we do that in the SOUTH - here is the information I found for him on GB. This is an auto-loader but there is nothing wrong with the quality.

I have a 28 gauge Weatherby made in Turkey - I will stack it up against anything of comparable value made in the USA - yes I am willing to put my money where my keyboard is.

    Best Regards - AQH

Don't get me wrong Scout5, SKB's are great, solidly built guns. They function, point and are a really great gun. They just don't seem to get the respect they deserve for their quality, due to their past history IMO. If the guns made in Turkey are the same tolerances as the previous made guns then it might be worth thinking about. However, if they are a made differently, or stamped "made in Turkey" it might be a real monetary mistake if you decide you don't like it and want to get rid of it. Check out the CZ's, or the BSS's. I know they're more $$, but IMO worth it because they will probably hold their value quite a bit better, and would be easier to sell if you ever decide to part with it. JMHO!!!

Thanks for the responses. I seen SKB and just assumed they were still made in Japan. I know the ones they made for Ithaca were decent guns and they have marketed some decent stuff under their own label. I am not a fan of Japanese made guns, but there are some good made guns from some of the companies.

I know there are some decent guns that come out of Turkey and some not so decent. I've yet to buy one. I know CZ's are made there and they market a 28ga sxs I've thought about, but there is no were for me to get my hands on one to check it out that I am aware of.

Have nothing bad to say re older Japanese-made US-pattern O/Us.
Solid iron & handle well. Just look at how many 80's Citoris are still running strong, & fetch retail prices @ today's auctions.
Even better are the SKBs, which are an echelon above IMHO & for a very good reason: Roy Weatherby was no fool.
