Hi price for the Colt Python
What started the hi-prices for the colt python.

Colt's decision to stop making them.

All the nice SAAs were in collections and the speculators and wheeler dealers had to have something else to jack up the price on. 0 -
Supply & demand there's no new supply and still a lot of demand.[;)] 0 -
And when guys see the price going up, they say to themselves, "I gotta get one of those." 0 -
Colt pythons have been priced sky-high for decades. This isn't really "new" though prices have been going up faster last few years.
Question has been already answered, but to amplify a bit Colt Python:
a. Is an iconic gun that even non-gun buffs have heard of. Meanwhile more Americans than ever are involved in shooting sports and gun ownership, meaning a much larger pool of interested buyers (ie greater demand).
b. Reflects the "golden age" of modern American gun manufacture. Every gun was built then hand-tuned by a gunsmith. They're never going to make these again. Too expensive, too little demand.
c. Has the word "Colt" on it. Colt has been out of the consumer handgun business for years and will probably never be in it again. Ironic, but right now Smith and Wesson is selling more "Colt 1911s" than Colt is.
Pretty much *anything* with the word "Colt" on it is an instant collectible now, so long as its in halfway decent shape.0 -

This might have been true, with the early production Python's? Some of the later ones, had serious workmanship and quality control problems, unfortunately.0 -
I have 2 of there them Python's[}:)] Better investment than gold[8D] 0 -
As to Colt being out of the handgun business they just came out with a new one. 0 -
Interest in Colt Pythons surged even more with the Walking Dead series on television. The main character Rick Grimes uses a Colt Python; this introduced the revolver to hordes of newbies that just had to have one - driving Python prices up even more.
Pythons are nice revolvers, but I can have two or maybe even three nice S&W revolvers for the price of one Python. Or even better about a half dozen nice Ruger revolvers for the same price. As a shooter the choice is easy. Collectors might struggle with the decision though![:)]0 -
