Colt Python
How can you tell a nickle finish from an ultimate stainless finish? The bluebook lists both and I don't know which one I have. Also how can you tell the year it was made by the serial no.? Does the serial no. give any other info about the gun?

I have a Colt Python polished SS with a 8" barrel. The gun is NIB. all paper work, carrying case, the cylinder has never been rotated. I bought the gun in 1993. gun serial number is PY3985 My question is, what's it worth? Thanks, I appreciate any help...[:D] 0 -
It's your money but in my opinion the pythons are way over priced and a correction will be coming. Just my opinion but I think there are better investments in the firearm market. 0 -
Ricci-I'm in your camp. Just don't get it. A fine firearm but . . . .? I own 2. One new in box and the other like new. I think I paid $400 +- for each. Maybe I should cash in now before the market wises up[}:)] 0 -
Rare, yes it is, but 6k,,imo is to much. Course I invested in Sunbeam, Fruit Of The Loom and Borg Warner.. So,,your call. 0 -
That is waaaay outboard. Half of that is tops...maybe 4 grand. Even the real rare ones are still under $10K. 0 -
My Dad has a 2 1/2" and a 4" both nickel that he hasn't fired in over 20 years. I advised him over a year ago to sell them before the prices came down. 0 -
$3500-$4000 currently, and I too agree with Ricci. 0 -
I agree with He Dog, about $3000 to $4000 is more like it. Although that gun as you describe is a Gem, $6000 is too high. Shop around some more.
This thread needs pictures....

About 2 years ago I sent a 2.5" stainless Python to Kasey to sell for me. It had maybe a box of shells thru it and Colt Walnut grips. I had less than a thousand in it. It sold for $7,500.00. I was shocked. It was a very nice piece but it was (in my opinion) not worth what it brought. Maybe it was the LF factor driving the price. 0
