Physically inspect handguns
Can anyone list ways to physically inspect handguns that you may want to buy but your local dealer/store does not have to show you? Thank you for any ideas.

Youtube has almost everything. I'm selective so I'm not buying unless I can do a hands on. Wheel guns cylinder: gap - small & square; little end shake, not a loose when locked up. Trigger no creep in single action, smooth in double. Crane tight.
Autoloaders, slide tight with barrel tight in the slide. Little creep in trigger.0 -
Not sure about cali, but in other states there are gun ranges that sell guns and also rent them and let you shoot a variety of guns. The list may be small but that is one way hands on.
Join a shooting club. Members will let you look and handle.0 -
You can't try an actual gun short of having it in your hand. So buying a used gun sight unseen is always a bit of a gamble.
If you're merely talking about trying a certain MODEL of gun before buying, there are a few ways to do that.
-Some gun ranges rent guns, and you can try different models that way.
-Join a gun club/range. You'll meet a bunch of gun buffs, and in my experience, many of them are quite friendly to new members and most will gladly let them try out guns from their personal collections.
So long as the person is following good safety practice, I usually let people I meet try given guns I bring to the range, if they seem interested.
When I was a gun club member, I *always* let other members try my guns if they had any interest in doing so, because I knew this was a vetted group, and pretty much all of them were serious gun buffs who knew what they were doing and respected other peoples guns.0 -
If the store does not have to or will not show a gun to you and let you handle it, there is no way to physically inspect it. 0
