I have a few older High Standard pistols and am pretty up to speed on the different magazines, but not 100%. I just bought an early "Sport King" with the lever system barrel change, not the later "button" type. I'm not quite certain which magazine to buy. Numrich, other sellers tend to list the Sport King all as one and an M-100. Not sure if this apples to the earliest versions. Checking the Triple K website hasn't provided a definite answer either.
Anyone got an early Sport King and can direct me to which one fits?0 -
I had a early lever once. Any of the mags worked fine for me. They were different but they all fit and fed just fine. 0 -

Thanks. I just grabbed a few from my Supermatics and they pop in fine. The Numrich site and a few others make it seem complicated as hell. I guess the simple answer works once in a while. [:D]0 -
The lever lock, High Standard, Sport Kings date to the early 50's. You can date the earliest, by the lack of a hold open.
Owned a couple over the years. The firing pin isn't spring loaded, and tends to be fragile, (don't ask me how I know). Also the barrel doesn't have a integral feed ramp. The magazine lips have to be tweaked, sometimes for proper feeding. Round nosed lead bullets tend to feed better, that flat nose H-P's like Winchester 555's.0 -

Thanks for the FP tip, probably worth tracking down another. I notice the "Hi Standard" website seems to be getting out of the HS pistol parts business. Interarms TX has some of the older stuff.
I have the "feed lip" tool but haven't had to use it. My Sport King is the "later early" version with the hold open device on it.
Tracking down barrels is a bit more of a challenge than I thought. It looks like the early Supermatic lever barrels are the same, but I'm not 100% sure.0 -

First time the FP broke, made a replacement out of drill rod. Since than I have bought a couple off of Wisner's. Wisner doesn't always have them. I guess they make a bunch on a run, and if there out. Your SOL, until they make another run.
The early lever lock barrels, might have been hand fitted? Have a early lever lock Field King. With serial number electro penciled, on under side of barrel. I wouldn't be buying a spare barrel, unless you could try if it fits on the pistol.

The lever take down Sport Kings used two different magazines during its time frame. A large diameter follower button finger style magazine was used for the first couple of years and a large follower button lip style magazine for the last year. Both Numrich and Triple-K are confused about what they offer for various high standard models.
The barrel was seldom fitted on the lever name series but were still being selected for fit so Rufe's suggestion about actually checking the barrel for fir is a good suggestion.
The other issues with barrels is that a Sport King with fixed sights uses a different front sight height than the models with the Davis adjustable rear sight.0 -

Thank you very much John. I appreciate the information. It does seem Numrich isn't quite sure of what fits which particular model.
By the way, you may get a kick out of post #5 in the attached thread. News of your demise is evidently in error.[;)]
