smith and wesson 1905 value 6 inch barrel
I am looking at a nice(90%-95%)model 1905 38spc.with a 6 inch barrel and magna type grips.
The lock up is tight and the bore looks great.
The price is 550.
The half moon sight and magna grips are unlike the other Smiths I have.
It might be a nice addition to the collection.
I know almost nothing about these models.
The SER# is C 144565.
DOM?
Approximate value?
The blue book seems way high compared to what I see on the auction side.
Thank You.

S.N. dates it to late 40's, early 50's. The large Magna grips aren't original. The half moon front sight are commonly found, on the pre Model 10 M & P's.
During that time frame, that particular model revolver. Was carried by 80%, of the uniformed police in the U.S. So in absolute terms, they are not rare.
$550 seems high to me. But as they have pretty much dried up, in excellent condition. Who knows? The grips are the only drawback. Check fleabay, to see what old original S & W, M & P, grips are going for. Subtract that from the $550, in your counter offer.0 -
Thank You rufe-snow.
The seller thought it was a 2nd model change.
Thanks again for clearing things up.0
